Dodge City Services for Dr. Glenn A. Shipe, 79, Dodge City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Burial with military graveside rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
Dr. Shipe died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.
He was born March 3, 1922, in Salina, the son of Raymond and Elsie (Kellow) Shipe. He graduated from Salina High School, attended college in Salina and graduated from the Chicago School of Podiatry. He moved to Dodge City in 1948.
Dr. Shipe served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot before he attended college. He had podiatry practices in Dodge City and Liberal until he retired in 1991.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Dodge City Shrine Club, St. Bernard Lodge No. 222 A.F. & A.M. and the American Legion, all in Dodge City; and the American Podiatrist Assn.
He married Hildred Sagerty in 1945. He later married Rosemary Mann Nelson on April 1, 1972, in Liberal. She died Sept. 18, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Bartlett and Rita Brychta, both of Manhattan; four sons, Danny and Doug, Dodge City, Greg, Lawrence, and John, Branson, Mo.; two stepsons, Doug Nelson, Austin, Tex., and Scott Nelson, Overland Park; two stepdaughters, Vici Myers, Celina, Tex., and Shelby Marchel, Dodge City; a brother, Ralph, Salina; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Shrine Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home, 1901 Sixth Ave., Dodge City 67801.
