Bryant sidelined with viral infection
Los Angeles Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, the NBA's second-leading scorer, missed Sunday night's game against the Seattle SuperSonics due to a viral infection.
Lakers spokesman John Black said Bryant, averaging 29.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists, was day-to-day.
Bryant took intravenous fluids after playing 44 minutes and scoring 38 points in a 93-89 overtime loss to San Antonio on Friday night, and didn't practice Saturday. He woke up with a sore throat and muscle aches.
Bryant missed three games last month due to a sprained ankle, and the defending NBA champion Lakers won all three.
The Sonics entered Sunday night's game having lost four straight and 10 of 13 to fall below .500, but were 3-0 against the Lakers this season.
The Lakers had only 10 players in uniform because Isaiah Rider was suspended for five games last week for failing to comply with the NBA's drug policy.
Iverson leaves with bruised hip
Boston Allen Iverson, the NBA leader in points, steals and minutes, left Sunday's game against the Boston Celtics in the second quarter with a bruised hip.
Iverson had 11 points, three rebounds and two steals in the first quarter, but he picked up his third foul in with 6:46 left in the second and went to the bench. When he did not return for the start of the third quarter, a Celtics spokesman said he was not expected to return.
The injury apparently occurred early in the first quarter when he dove for a ball after knocking it away from Boston center Mark Blount.
Iverson has already missed games this season because of injuries to his shoulder, knee and right hip.
Celtics activate Moiso from IL
Boston The Boston Celtics activated forward Jerome Moiso from the injured list Sunday and placed guard Chris Carr on the injured list with a broken left thumb.
Moiso, the team's first-round draft pick this year, had not played since Feb. 25 because of tendinitis in his right knee. He was averaging 1.4 points and 5.9 minutes in 22 games.
Carr was averaging 4.8 points and 8.8 minutes in 35 games. He was injured on Friday night against Washington.
