— Brian Meadows allowed just one single in four innings and Jermaine Dye and Carlos Beltran homered for Kansas City in a 4-2 victory over a Philadelphia Phillies split squad Sunday.

Meadows, the winning pitcher, retired the first 11 batters he faced before Bobby Abreu singled in the fourth. Meadows walked none and struck out four.

Beltran, being used only as a designated hitter because of a sore shoulder, homered to right in the third off Chris Brock.

Dye homered leading off the fourth against Brock. The homers were the second of the spring for both Beltran and Dye.

The Royals made it 4-0 in the sixth when Raul Ibanez doubled to right after a walk to Gregg Zaun and Mike Sweeney's single.

Mac Suzuki, who had shoulder surgery last October, worked two hitless innings in relief of Meadows.

Philadelphia's two runs came in the eighth when Tomas Perez doubled off rookie left-hander Scott Mullen.

Brett Laxton worked around a walk and two wild pitches in the ninth to pick up his first save.
