Meteorologist to conduct weather workshop
With spring and tornado season on the way, a Topeka National Weather Service meteorologist will provide a weather workshop for the public this week.
Mike Akulow, warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service, will provide a review of the 2000 Kansas severe weather season, give an overview of severe thunderstorm and tornado development, discuss severe weather safety tips, and show a video of Kansas storms and tornadoes.
The free workshop will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Perry school district to have budget hearing
Perry school district officials will conduct a public hearing today on an increase in the current school budget.
The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Officials are expected to announce that an extra $10,164 that was added when the state recalculated the district's transportation density and allowed the district more budget authority, Supt. Henry Murphy said.
Concert postponed
The University Singers/Men's Glee Club concert scheduled for today has been postponed.
The concert has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. March 29 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1229 Vt.
LMH offers refresher class for expecting parents
Lawrence Memorial Hospital will offer a two-part review class this month for parents who already have experienced childbirth.
"Refresher Prenata" will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. today and March 19.
According to LMH, the classes will be taught by a registered nurse with extensive childbirth education training. They will include a review of vaginal and cesarean birth, VBAC, medications and interventions, relaxation and breathing techniques, and other helpful reminders about the birth process.

Public library seeks volunteers
The Lawrence Public Library is looking for volunteers for short-term and ongoing projects.
According to volunteer coordinator Mary Lynn Stuart, openings are available for everyone from teens to seniors. Training may be necessary for some positions and will be provided by staff members.

KU fees to pay for newspapers
Kansas University students will have free access to four newspapers on campus starting this fall.
The Student Senate approved a plan that will raise student fees $6.50 per semester to give them access to the Lawrence Journal-World, Kansas City Star, New York Times and USA Today. Students can receive papers by swiping their student IDs through machines at 20 sites around campus.
The Student Senate offered the four papers to students during a four-week pilot program early this semester. A majority of students surveyed after the pilot program indicated they would be willing to pay higher fees for the papers, Walker said. The issue also will be included as a nonbinding question on ballots during April's student elections.
Crime Stoppers' Most Wanted includes Lawrence resident
A 22-year-old Lawrence man who police say failed to show for an appointment with his parole officer is Crime Stoppers' featured most wanted fugitive.
In February 1998, Kyree M. McClelland entered the Douglas County Community Corrections Program after being convicted of robbery, Lawrence Police said.
McClelland failed to show for a Jan. 1 Community Corrections appointment, Det. Dave Anderson said.
McClelland is a black male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5-foot-9 and weighs 160 pounds.
Anyone with information about McClelland's whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at 843-8477 (TIPS). Crime Stoppers will pay $100 for information that leads to the arrest of a fugitive. Callers remain anonymous.
