Automobiles
Maintenance important for warranty usage
A common topic of concern is the purchase and repair of automobiles.
Here is a common automotive-related question and answer provided by Atty. Gen. Carla Stovall's Consumer Protection Division:
Q. I recently had the transmission on my 4x4 repaired. It failed again. When I took it back to have it fixed under warranty the shop refused to honor the warranty. I was told I had let the transmission run out of fluid, which voided the warranty. Can shops do that?
A. Yes. Misuse of a vehicle, including lack of proper maintenance by the owner of a vehicle, can be considered abuse and/or neglect of the vehicle.
This can void not only warranties on repairs, but any warranty still remaining on the vehicle from the time of purchase.
If you have automotive questions or concerns, call the Consumer Protection division at (800) 432-2310.
