To the editor:

I would like to thank the people of Lawrence for welcoming me to your wonderful city during my recent visit as the "guest author" for the Read Across Lawrence project.

Read Across Lawrence is a truly extraordinary undertaking. I have never encountered anything like it. I was very impressed at the dedication of the volunteers and the enthusiasm of the entire city. This unique project was sponsored by the Adventures in Imagination Partnership of Firstar Bank, the Lied Center of Kansas and the Lawrence public schools.

Specifically, I wish to express my gratitude to the co-chairs of the committee: Margie Coggins, librarian at Sunflower Elementary School; Jane Imber, librarian at Quail Run Elementary School; and Wayne Kruse, a sixth-grade teacher who is also the president of the LEA.

I look forward to returning to Lawrence, my new "home-away-from-home," in the future.

Amy Hill Hearth,

"Having Our Say"
