When musicians cancel their tour, it often leaves venues scrambling to fill the vacancy.

Lucky for chamber music fans that the Lied Center knew whom to call when the booking management company for the Berlin Chamber Orchestra called in mid-January to say the ensemble would not being coming to the United States after all.

Taking the orchestra's place will be Camerata Sweden, which is led by Danish violinist Arne Balk-Moller. Musical director is Levon Chilingirian. The ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The tour will mark the Swedish ensemble's first visit in the United States.

The program tentatively includes Mozart's "Divertimento in F Major," Swensen's "Violin Romance," Mendelssohn's "String Symphony No. 1," Torina's "The Prayer of the Bull Fighter" and Grieg's "Holberg Suite."

Camerata Sweden, also known as Camerata Roman, is a 15-member ensemble. "Camerata" represents a close ensemble playing with chamber music quality and intensity, without a conductor. "Roman" signifies the influence of Johan Helmich Roman, who is considered the father of Swedish music.

The Camerata's repertoire includes music from the Baroque period to present day. The group, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1999, performs regularly on Swedish radio and television. The musicians toured throughout Europe and Mexico.

Tickets, which range from $11 to $27, are available at the Lied Center Box Office, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall Box Office, 864-3982; Student Union Activities Box Office, 864-3477; KU Medical Center Bookstore; Ticketmaster outlets, (785) 234-4545 and (816) 931-3330; and online at TICKETS.COM.
