Services for Sydney O. Schroeder, M.D., 83, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dr. Schroeder died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Beatrice, Neb., the son of William A. and Clara (Penner) Schroeder. He graduated from Wichita University in 1938 and from Kansas University School of Medicine in 1944. He also graduated from Menninger School of Psychiatry in Topeka. He moved to Lawrence in 1963 from Topeka.
Dr. Schroeder served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He had been a general practitioner in Liberty, Mo., for 13 years, and was director of student mental health from 1963 to 1983 at KU.
He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Lawrence Country Club and a number of conservation associations. He also had volunteered as a reader at Hillcrest School and for the Meals on Wheels. He was also a member of several professional associations.
He married Margaret Loomis on July 30, 1939, in Wichita. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Ann Porter, Grand Forks, N.D., Jane DeSouza, Brewster, N.Y., and Virginia Dowell, Ottawa; a son, William W., Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, Philip V., Independence, Kan.; a sister, Virginia Corrin, Wichita; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the Penner Foundation at Bethel College in North Newton, the Kansas University Endowment Association or the Plymouth Congregational Church. Memorials may be sent in care of the mortuary.
