To the editor:

Regarding Chuck Woodling's sports editorial in the March 5 Lawrence Journal-World: Public praise and plaudits should go to "persistent police pursuing tailgating imbibers," at Kansas University's football stadium. They are doing their job. Although tailgating imbibers may be indulging in simple picnic pleasures and feel "plagued" by police, what happens after the party is over? What must be done to drive home the connection that drinking and driving have with damage and destruction even death?

Chuck Woodling should take a penalty for his flippant comment.

Ellen and Charles Wyttenbach,

Lawrence
