Memorial services for Michael Briscoe, 57, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Briscoe died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 8, 1943, in Montevideo, Minn., the son of James and Edith (Forsyth) Briscoe. He earned a degree in French and German from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 1964 and a master's degree in information media with an emphasis in educational media from St. Cloud State University in 1978.
Mr. Briscoe taught French in Fresno, Calif., and moved in 1966 to Morris, Minn., where he worked for 10 years as a high school French teacher and then as a library/media generalist in 1975.
He was active with speech and theater productions and served 10 years on the public library board and on the regional library board and regional arts council for several years in Morris, Minn. He retired and moved to Lawrence in 1999.
Mr. Briscoe volunteered in Lawrence after his retirement and read Table Time News for Audio-Reader radio broadcasts. He also helped with collection development in the West Junior High School library and read to the school's Young Adult Literature classes each week. He was honored as the WJHS Friend of Education for 2000-2001.
He married Bonnie Darlene Goodwill on June 6, 1969, in Williamsburg. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a sister, Diane Glowatzke, Chaska, Minn.
The family suggests memorials to Habitat for Humanity, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
