Entries sought for Arkansas film fest

Fayetteville, Ark. The Fayetteville FilmFest is seeking entries for its international short film festival April 27-29. The festival is looking for short film and videos, 40 minutes or less of any style of genre that were completed from Jan. 1, 1999.

Works must be submitted by March 15. The entry fee is $20.

To enter send a VHS tape, fee, completed entry form, synopsis, production credit list and two publicity photos to CAT, 101 West Rock St., Fayetteville, Ark. 72701.

Fiddle champion coming to Ottawa

Ottawa Byron Berline, three-time winner of the national fiddle championships in Winfield, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium, Third and Hickory streets.

The concert will feature western swing and bluegrass music. Band members are Steve Short, drums; Richard Sharp, bass; Jim Fish, guitar; and John Hickman, banjo. They will give a demonstration of the history of their music at 7 p.m.

Berline has been a member of such bands as Bill Monroe & His Bluegrass Boys, Dillard & Clark and the Country Gazette. He has recorded with The Byrds, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Bob Dylan, Joe Diffie, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Elton John, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson and others.

He has played on the soundtracks for "Star Trek," "Blaze," "Back to the Future III" and "Basic Instinct."

His has recorded six albums, including his two-time Grammy-nominated "Fiddle & a Song."

Spalding Gray to appear at Folly

Kansas City, Mo. Actor-writer Spalding Gray will present his latest monologue, "Morning, Noon and Night," at 8 p.m. Friday at the Folly Theater, 12th Street and Central Avenue.

The monologue is about the perils of growing older and becoming a father at the age of 50.

Gray has appeared on and off-Broadway and in such feature films as "The Killing Fields," "Beaches," "King of the Hill" and "The Paper." His monologues have been published in several collections and his novels include "Gray's Anatomy" and "Impossible Vacation."

Seasoned singers to perform pops concert

Kansas City, Mo. Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme will join the Kansas City Symphony for a pops concert at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Music Hall, 13th Street and Central Avenue.

The husband-and-wife team has performed on Broadway, received a Grammy Award for "We've Got Us" and earned nine Emmy Awards for their television specials. During their 40-year career, they have performed with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and many others.

Autos on display at Bartle Hall

Kansas City, Mo. The Greater Kansas City International Auto Show will be held through Sunday at Bartle Hall, 301 W. 13th St.

Visitors will get a preview of concept cars and see the newest cars for 2001 and 2002. An auto arcade will feature auto-themed video and pinball games.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 8-12.
