The Douglas County Emergency Communications Department wants to hire two additional employees to be fully staffed this year.

Director Jim Denney said the department currently has two vacancies and three other people in training. He said he expects to have two more vacancies before the current trainees are finished, which means about a six-month delay before they can be added into the work schedule without immediate supervision.

Tonight, Denney will ask the Douglas County Commission to consider a request to "overhire" two communications officers so his department will be fully staffed by this fall.

Commissioners tonight also will reconsider a request to rezone about 5 acres from agricultural to light industrial for Charles Mestagh, owner of McLouth Excavating.

Commissioners will discuss a proposal to form a traffic safety advisory committee and consider offering the county's annual dust-prevention program.

The meeting starts at 6:35 p.m. at the county courthouse, 1100 Mass.
