KU center offers help with resumes
Resume Doctors will offer Kansas University students help this week on their resumes.
KU Career & Employment Services staff members will help students from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Thursday at the fourth floor lobby of the Kansas Union.
Mobile home damaged in Franklin County fire
A mobile home trailer was damaged in a fire that broke out Friday afternoon in rural Franklin County, authorities said.
No one was at home and no injuries were reported in the blaze, which occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Friday at 660 Sand Creek Road. The cause of the blaze hadn't been determined Monday, authorities said.
A damage estimate wasn't available Monday.
Electrical problem causes fire at Lawrence residence
An electrical problem is thought to be the cause of a Monday night fire at a Lawrence residence, a Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical spokesman said.
Firefighters arrived at 1020 R.I. about 6:40 p.m. to extinguish a fire that caused "minimal damage," Battalion Chief Brian Lawrence said.
The house was occupied at the time but no one was injured, Lawrence said. No other information was available late Monday.
Preliminary hearing set in vehicular death case
A man charged with involuntary manslaughter in the February death of a Kansas University student was ordered to appear at a preliminary hearing during a first appearance Monday in Douglas County District Court.
Brandon L. Gentry, 30, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday, at which the state will be required to present evidence against him.
Gentry is charged with the death of Shyra McGee, who died Feb. 4 after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sixth Street and Monterey Way.
Gentry remained in Douglas County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bond.
