The Kansas House heavily amended in floor debate and then gave tentative approval to a bill requiring a week's waiting period between the purchase of a handgun and the taking of possession. The original bill, requested by Gov. Robert F. Bennett, would have required a two-week delay between purchase and possession.

Kansas Gov. John Anderson signed into law a bill continuing for two more years the present 5-mill building fund levy for Lawrence public schools.
