Franklin County authorities were today investigating the death of a woman who was killed in a fire Sunday afternoon in her rural home.
The identity of the woman is being withheld pending results of an autopsy, which is to take place today, according to a statement released today by Sheriff Craig Davis.
Davis said firefighters and sheriff's officers were called at 1:18 p.m. Sunday to a mobile home fire in the 2700 block of Tennessee Terrace in Eastern Franklin County. Davis said officers and firefighters found a small camper and a single-wide mobile home engulfed in flames.
Firefighters discovered a body that appeared to be a female inside the camper. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Davis said his office is working on the investigation with Ottawa's fire department and with the Kansas State Fire Marshall's office.
The cause of the fire had not been made available.
Firefighters from Cutler, Franklin and Ottawa township fire departments responded to the blaze.
