Services for James Edward Lee Tucker, 69, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church. A military burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.

Mr. Tucker died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 14, 1932, in Fort Scott, the son of James Henry and Hazel Louise (McMillan) Tucker.

Mr. Tucker moved to Lawrence in 1959. He worked as a maintenance welder for Kansas University before joining the Lawrence Fire Department in 1961. He retired in 1984. After his retirement he was a landlord for several properties in Lawrence. He is a past president of Landlords of Lawrence Inc.

Mr. Tucker was a Navy and Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He had attended Kansas State College at Pittsburg from 1955 to 1959.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post No. 852; a member of the Masonic Lodge, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason; and a life member of Scottish Rite Bodies, all of Lawrence. He was appointed by the mayor of Lawrence to be on the Community Development Block Grant advisory committee.

He married Martha Pearl Mahiew on Dec. 23, 1960. They later divorced. He married Janice Kay Zook on Oct. 15, 1971, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one son, Jason, Lawrence; a sister, Joyce Louise Lundeen, Fort Scott; and two grandchildren.

Twin grandsons died in February 2000.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Care Ministry at First Christian Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
