Services for Edith Mae Franklin, 95, Lawrence, will be private. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Franklin died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
She was born April 6, 1905, in the Clinton area of rural Douglas County, the daughter of John J. and Edith Ann (Baldwin) Tobler. She attended Model School and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1923. She attended Kansas University.
Mrs. Franklin moved to Kansas City, Kan., and worked for Macy's, Woolf Brothers and Swansons retail stores. She returned to Lawrence in 1992 from Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Franklin and her first husband founded Independent Laundry, Lawrence.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village.
She married Ed Elam on Dec. 29, 1924, in Lawrence. They later divorced. She married Bernie Franklin on July 6, 1967, in Kansas City, Kan. He died in September 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Edith Black, Urbana, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Barbara Leibengood O'Toole, died in 1980.
The family suggests memorials to Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
