Phenix Talent Search: Lawrence Phenix, a U-10 competitive fast-pitch team, needs three players to fill its roster for the 2001 season. The Phenix won last year's A USSSA state championship and was runner-up at the B AFA Nationals. For information, call John Hamilton at 542-2860 or 785 766-9927.

Free State Clinic: Free State High is offering a Bigger, Faster, Stronger clinic for student-athletes of all sports in grades 7 through 12. The two-day clinic will run from 5-10 p.m. on March 9, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 10 at the FSHS gym. For information, contact Bob Lisher or Janice Dunn at 832-6050.

BU Football Clinic: A football coaching clinic is scheduled March 10 on the Baker University campus. Among the speakers will be Kansas University strength coach Fred Roll. For information, call Bruce Young or Tamara Starkey at 785 594-8491.

Flames Sixth Second: Lawrence Flames sixth grade girls basketball team finished second at the Kansas City Keys tournament. Team members are Cally Gray, Kelsey Harrison, Jenica Wessels, Allie Hock, Ashley Patton, Alex Harvey, Jessica Baer, Livi Abney and Jenna Brantley. Coaches are Wint Winter and Patience Grayer. Harrison was named to the all-tourney team.

Free State Hockey Wins: Free State High's hockey club edged Shawnee Mission South, 3-2, last weekend. Matt Schwabauer and David Knight had a goal and two assists apiece. Jon Ewing netted the game-winning goal in the third period.

Kings Second: Lawrence's And 1 Kings finished second in the third-grade division of the Three-Pointer tournament last weekend at Sport 2 Sport. Team members are Dylan Flitcraft, Adam Hasty, Scott Brenn, Seth Dirks-Ham, Clark Gray, Jake Farley, Nick Hassig and Garrett Wagner. Coaches are Scott Flitcraft and Nathan Gray.

LWC Strikes Gold: Lawrence Wrestling Club's Grady Salzman, Caden Lynch, Chase Russell, Koty Russell, K.J. Siebert and Jesse Hardy won gold medals at a tournament last weekend in Wamego. Other LWC medalists were Jarod Grape, Mason Barr, Boomer Mays, Cody Salzman, Nichole Snider, Matt Dunlap, Ryan Ellis and Brett Shoffner.

Hase Gymnastics Winner: Sara Hase of the Kansas School of Gymnastics won her age-group all-around at Level 5 in the Pony Express meet last weekend in St. Joseph, Mo. Teammate Alison Womack earned a fourth while Morgan Harris and Kasey Clements posted fifths. Other KSG competitors were Amelia Firns-Hubert, Sarah Athey, April Miller, Alexa Clements, Samantha Shuler, Catlyn Fisher, Abby Hanson and Brittany Harrell.

Two Gym Golds: Mallory West and Kara Kellison of the Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won age-group Level 7 all-around titles last weekend at the Pony Express Meet in St. Joseph, Mo. Teammates Jillian Hay and Ashley Sakumura earned third and fourth respectively. At Level 6, Aarynne Struble was third and Meredith West fourth in the all-around. At Level 5, Elizabeth Brandt was second in all-around while Dianna Torgerson and Adrienne Struble earned fourth places. Other LGA competitors were Alexandra Hyler, Aubrey Morris, Jenny Hunt, Weatherly Butler, Arden Leland, Darian Gonzales and Chelsey Ornburn.
