Annie Kettle, a 16-year-old sophomore at Free State High School, was taped performing on the French horn in late January at the New England Conservatory in Boston for an upcoming installment of "From the Top," a program distributed by Public Radio International to 214 radio stations around the nation.

"From the Top" is a weekly, hour-long radio showcase of America's top young classical musicians hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O'Riley.

During the taping, Annie performed before a live audience along with other pre-collegiate musicians from several states.

She was invited to perform for the radio show after she won the junior high brass division national title in a competition sponsored by the Music Teachers National Assn. last year in Minneapolis.

"From the Top" is not carried by any radio stations in Kansas. But the program on which Annie performed will be available to download on the Internet in April or May from the Web site www.FromtheTop.org.

"It was truly incredible," Annie said. "It was really an eye opener to see the opportunities and places that working hard in music can take you."
