LEAWOOD Memorial Mass for Doyle Dean Schick, 62, Overland Park, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, Leawood. Cremation is planned, and private burial will be at a later date.
Mr. Schick died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Olathe Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Lawrence, the son of A.D. and Dorothy Schick. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1957 and Kansas University in 1961.
While at KU, Mr. Schick was co-captain of the football team and captain of the baseball team, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He played football with the Washington Redskins in 1961 and 1962.
Mr. Schick also had been a teacher and coach at Rosedale High School, Kansas City, Kan., and Hutchinson High School. He joined the sales force of Holiday Sand and Gravel Co. in 1968, where he became vice president of sales and operations for Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma in 1992. He retired in 1999.
He was active in Heavy Constructors of Kansas City, Associated General Contractors of Missouri, Mid-West Concrete Industry Board, Concrete Promotional Group, MO/KS Chapter ACPA, Missouri Concrete Assn. and Kansas Aggregate Producers Assn.
Mr. Schick was also a member of Kansas Ready Mix Concrete Assn., Kansas Contractors Assn., Springfield Contractors Assn. and Missouri Asphalt Paving Assn. He volunteered for many years as football and basketball coach through Johnson County YMCA.
He also served on the board of directors of Leawood South Country Club and was a charter member of Wolf Creek Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; three daughters, Sherri Downing, Overland Park, Cindy Scribner, Olathe, and Lori Donnelly, Prairie Village; a brother, Don, Lawrence; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to Olathe Good Samaritan Center, 20705 W. 151st St., Olathe 66061.
