She is the daughter of Joseph and Mary Harvey, Lawrence.


Navy Ensign Jacob Wingebach, son of Rebecca Thyfault, Topeka, and Charles Wingebach, Eudora, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.


Navy Ensign Luke Whittemore, a 1997 Lawrence High School graduate, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.


James Topping has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

Topping served as an academy cadet senior officer who provided leadership, motivation and direction for the cadet wing and demonstrated effective officership in support of unit mission objectives.

He is the son of Kathryn Shortridge, Toledo, Ohio, and Stephen Topping, Lawrence.


Jessica Maher, battalion commander from 1995-1996 at Oak Ridge Military Academy, Oak Ridge, N.C., recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor of science degree in biology.

She graduated summa cum laude with both university and departmental honors, the result of the completion and presentation of her two-year honors project titled "The Potential Impacts of Underwater Explosions on Bottlenose Dolphins, Tursiops truncatus, in the Cape Fear River."

Maher will be starting a graduate program in coastal environmental management at Duke University this fall. She is the daughter of Michael Maher and Mary Vernon, Lawrence.


Dustin Patterson has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry program.

Patterson, a 2000 Lawrence High School graduate, will report for basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of Conie Puckett, Baldwin, and Michael Patterson, Lawrence.


Air Force Airman 1st Class Scott Hopp has arrived for duty at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.

Hopp is a crew chief with the 81st Fighter Squadron.

He is the son of Cherie Magerl, Kansas City, Kan., and Alan Hopp, Lawrence.
