Mr. Wellman died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at an Overland Park nursing home.

He was born Sept. 25, 1944, in Garnett, the son of A. "Morton" and Velma Lloy (Glasco) Wellman.

He graduated from Garnett High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1974 and U.S. Army from 1976 to 1984. He worked as a material inspection supervisor for the Kansas Department of Transportation, Merriam, for 11 years. He lived in Meriden from 1985 to 1989, when he moved to Topeka.

He married Maritza E. Fuetes Dec. 7, 1976, in Columbia, S.C. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Velma L. Wellman, Winchester; four sons, Dwayne, Mesquite, Tex., Richard Magnusson, San Antonio, Tex., John Haidul, St. Louis, Mo., and William Haidul, Overland Park; two daughters, Sabrena Wellman, Dallas, and Patricia Ruzicka, Overland Park; three brothers, Ronald, Meriden, Lyle, Oskaloosa, and Alan, Tacoma, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
