A Lawrence woman is accusing a psychic of duping her out of several thousand dollars for warding off an evil spirit.

The woman said that in March she visited Lawrence Metaphysical Shop, 1017 Mass., for sheer entertainment.

During a subsequent visit, she said, she became convinced of the evil spirit's existence.

The woman this week told Lawrence Police she gave the psychic more than $3,000 and was asked to pay more to complete the removal of the evil spirit or curse which the psychic said was cast over both the woman and her 6-year-old daughter.

Besides filing a complaint with the police, the woman has reported the situation to the Kansas Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau.

The psychic, Tina Lee, said she was unaware that any complaint had been made.

She declined to respond to specifics because she wasn't sure who the woman was.

"All my work's guaranteed," Lee said, adding that if people are unhappy they can get their money back.

Lee said she provides a service like any other business, and fees vary depending on what she is asked to do.

Lawrence Police took a report but are not investigating the incident as a crime, Sgt. Mike Pattrick said.

The woman said that the police officer who took her report told her there was an "unenforceable law" regarding a situation like this.
