— Lisa Leslie had 19 points, including the go-ahead basket with 3:25 remaining, as the Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Charlotte Sting, 73-69, Tuesday night to continue the best start in WNBA history.

The Sparks improved to 9-0, but struggled mightily against the league's worst team. Charlotte lost its fourth straight and dropped to 1-5 on the road.

Los Angeles blew a 12-point lead and trailed at halftime, then saw a nine-point lead evaporate in the second half.

Fire 58, Storm 43

Portland, Ore. Tully Bevilaqua scored a career-high 12 points and took three charges on defense as the Portland Fire defeated the Seattle Storm, 58-43, Tuesday night. Kristin Folkl added 12 rebounds for the Fire, who won for the fifth time in six games. Portland (5-2) went just 10-22 as an expansion team last season and didn't win its fifth game until July 9.

Liberty 65, Monarchs 56

Sacramento, Calif. Tamika Whitmore scored 23 points to lead New York to a 65-56 victory over the Sacramento Monarchs, the Liberty's fifth straight win.
