Leadership Lawrence meeting set

An informational meeting about Leadership Lawrence will be at 5:30 p.m. July 16 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The meeting comes as the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce goes about the process of selecting 24 residents to participate in the class.

Participants must live or work in the Lawrence area and must be able to attend all scheduled sessions. Completed applications and letters of reference are due Aug. 6. For more information, call Nancy Longhurst at 842-1202.

Holeman moves to speaker's office

Lawrence resident Scott Holeman, 37, has accepted a position with Kansas House Speaker Kent Glasscock's office, effective July 9.

Holeman, former news director and anchor at Channel 6 News, will be the office's director of communications. He's held a similar position with the state Department of Revenue for the past 18 months.

Neighborhood opposes KU expansion plans

The Lawrence Preservation Alliance will sponsor a tour of the Oread neighborhood at 7 p.m. Monday, in opposition to Kansas University expansion plans.

Resident Greg Hickam will lead the tour and discuss KU's plans to build two scholarship halls in the 1300 block of Ohio. Neighborhood residents don't want existing houses destroyed.

The public is welcome to attend. The tour will begin at 14th and Ohio streets. For more information, call Pat Kehde, president of the Lawrence Preservation Alliance, at 841-8296.
