Ice cream manager serves up flavor

June 20, 2001

Residence: Lawrence.

Age: 22.

Job title: Store manager.

Company: Sylas and Maddy's Homemade Ice Cream, 1014 Mass.

Length of employment at company: Two years.

Job responsibilities: Pretty much everything. "I make ice cream, scoop ice cream, help customers, plan schedules, order supplies, hire people -- everything," she said.

Favorite part of my job: Making new flavors of ice cream that customers enjoy. Her current favorites are Pineapple Mango Sorbet and Banana Nut Bread. Anderson also enjoys sampling her creations. "If we work here, we can eat as much as we can for free," she said.

Most difficult part of my job: "Making everybody happy that comes in. We're busy, so sometimes people have to wait in line," she said. "But it's worth it."

Interests outside of work: Exercising, reading, hanging out with friends.

Advice to live by: "Ice cream makes everything better," Anderson said. "Everyone should know that."

Something you may be surprised to learn about me: Anderson is majoring in community health at Kansas University, an educational track that is not at odds with her love of ice cream. "It's the calcium and vitamin D," she said. "I still eat ice cream all the time."
