Scouting news

Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, met May 30.

Nickolas Joseph received his Arrow of Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouting and the only one that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform. Nick has joined Boy Scout Troop 52.

Other boys receiving rank advancement at the meeting were: Jake Brown, Bobcat and Bear; Austin Holladay and Julyan Wilson, Wolf; Aurelius Armstrong, Rich DiBenedetto, Tyler Gibson, Austin Holladay, Brandon Laing, Asher O'Connor and Matthew Ruder, Bear.

The following boys received one or more additional awards: Josh Durflinger, Brandon Eller, Ian Heinerikson, Chance McKinney, Ian O'Connor, Keagan Taylor, Aurelius Armstrong, Jake Brown, Rick DiBenedetto, Tyler Gibson, Austin Holladay, Brandon Laing, Asher O'Connor, Matthew Ruder, Calvin Abbott, Jevan Bremby, Zachary Dozier, Brian Loux, Trevor Norris, Michael Robinson, Sabastion Simmons, William Gibson, Danny Lee, Dylan Sauer, Justin Stearns and Julyan Wilson.

Cub Scout Pack 3051 had its annual Fishing Derby June 2 at Douglas County State Fishing Lake. Thirteen Cub Scouts along with family members fished from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Josh Durflinger won the Derby by catching 11 fish. Calvin Abbott won a prize for the biggest fish, a 7-pound bluegill. Christopher Sloan won the prize for the first fish caught. Other participants, each of whom received a prize, were: Ian O'Connor, Kelly Jones, Rich DiBenedetto, Taylor Copp, John McLean, Ian Hienrickson, Tyler Gibson, Michael Robinson, William Gibson and Mason Robinson.

Bill Berkowitz, Jack Berkowitz and Justin Deaver of Boy Scout Troop 52 helped the boys. They also kept statistics and judged the events. David Berkowitz, assistant scoutmaster of Troop 52 and former pack committee chair of 3051, arranged the prizes. Gerie Aiken, Pack 3051, organized and operated the concessions.
