To the editor:
We agree with Dolph C. Simons, Jr. (June 2 column) that "this is not the time for partisan politics or for efforts to divide the community with silly labels." Perhaps this new spirit of non-partisanship will now be embraced by the Lawrence Journal-World. Certainly the labels contained in the May 22 and 23 headlines concerning David Burress ("Mayor appoints critic to commission," and "'Smart-growth' appointment to planning board rejected") foster more divisiveness than cooperation in our community.
