Governor’s Fishing Classic to open with golf tourney

June 3, 2001

The fifth annual Governor's Fishing Classic will be Tuesday and Wednesday at Coffey County Lake. It's sponsored by Kansas Wildscape, a private non-profit foundation.

A celebrity golf tournament is scheduled Tuesday. The 18-hole, four person scramble will be played at Rock Creek Country Club in Burlington and at Indian Hills in New Strawn.

Following the golf tournament, Gov. Bill Graves will host a barbeque and auction at Rock Creek Country Club. Items to be auctioned are Kansas Speedway Corporation ticket package, autographed George Brett Hall of Fame Bat, slot in Governor's One Shot Turkey Hunt and a "Hall of Fame" baseball signed by George Brett, Len Dawson, and Tom Watson. The auction is open to the public.

The fishing tournament will include two competitions a weigh-in for the largest largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye and wiper; and a paper tournament for all fish returned to the water.

The festivities will wrap-up with a raffle for a new Tracker Marine boat, and shoreline fishing with the kids, Governor Graves and his guests.
