The Wakarusa Township Fire Department responded about 8:15 p.m. Thursday to a wheat silo fire.

The fire occurred on property at 918 E. 1500 Road belonging to Walter George, a Douglas County Sheriff's report said.

A combination of moisture in the grain and high temperatures caused combustion, the report said.

Total damage and losses was listed at $7,000.

Suspect charged with car burglary

A Lenexa man was arrested Friday afternoon after several witnesses told Lawrence Police they saw him steal items from a car.

Ricky D. Hundley, 37, was charged Monday with auto burglary and obstruction of justice, both felonies, and theft and battery on a law enforcement officer, both misdemeanors.

Police were called to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 138 Ala., about 12:20 p.m. on a report of a car burglary in progress. Officers were given a detailed description of the suspect, and a man matching that description was seen nearby riding a bicycle, a police report said.

An officer stopped and talked to the suspect and then arrested him. The suspect allegedly pushed the officer and resisted arrest, the report said.

Allegedly taken in the theft were a leather wallet containing $20, a cell phone and other items valued at a total of $621, the report said.

Hundley was detained in the Douglas County Jail Monday on $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. Aug. 13.
