Roads: Motorcyclist suffers fatal injuries in K-4 accident An Effingham man died from injuries suffered when his motorcycle collided with a car Sunday shortly after 9 p.m. in rural Jefferson County, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Charles F. Miller, 48, was taken to Stormont-Vail HealthCare, Topeka, by Jefferson County Emergency Medical Service where he later died, a spokesman for the service said. The driver of the car, a 1987 Honda, identified as Timothy A. Horne, Huntsville, Tex., was not hurt, the Highway Patrol reported. He was driving a 1987 Honda. Horne was attempting to turn on to Kansas Highway 4 from Decator Road between Meriden and Valley Falls, the Highway Patrol said. Miller, riding on a 1989 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was southbound on K-4. The motorcycle struck the front of the Honda, the report said. ___________ Community: 94th Vinland Fair seeks volunteers for preparation Volunteers are needed to prepare for the 94th annual Vinland Fair. A work day is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7. People are needed to help set up the livestock building, tables and display areas for the home economics exhibits. Interested volunteers should stop by the fairgrounds, just east of the intersection of County Roads 460 and 1055 by the Vinland School. The fair will take place Aug. 9-11. ___________ Tribute: Kansans can pay respects to former Gov. Finney Former Kansas Gov. Joan Finney will be buried Thursday in Topeka. Events honoring Mrs. Finney, who died Saturday at age 76, are: Today 6:30 p.m.: Rosary, by the Sisters of Charity order from Leavenworth, Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 S.W. 17th St., Topeka. 7:30 p.m.: Ecumenical service, Most Pure Heart church. Wednesday 11 a.m. Burial Mass, Most Pure Heart church. Thursday 9 a.m., Burial, Mount Calvary Cemetery, 801 S.W.
