LEAWOOD — Advanced deer hunting education classes are scheduled Aug. 21 and Aug. 30 at the Leawood Community Center. Classes will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The sessions are intended for new or less experienced hunters who wish to improve their white-tailed deer hunting knowledge.
The course is based upon the National Rifle Association (NRA) format, and NRA certification will be given to all who complete the class. It will be taught by a certified Kansas Hunter Education instructor and is jointly sponsored by Wildlife and Parks as part of its Recruitment and Retention Program.
Mentored white-tailed deer hunts will be available after the course for those who wish to harvest a whitetail doe with a game tag. Mentored hunts will be limited by the available number of volunteers.
Two range days (minimum) will be scheduled following the class. Range days will be required for all who choose to hunt and will be optional for all other participants.
