Name: Mark Chaney.

Residence: Lawrence.

Age: 38.

Job title: Insurance agent.

Company: Allstate Insurance, 3300 Mesa Way, Suite B.

Length of employment at company: Four years, including 10 months as an agent.

Job responsibilities: Sell and service home, auto and life insurance, plus provide retirement-planning services. "I'm a multiline agent," he said.

Favorite part of my job: "Helping people," said Chaney, who describes himself as a people person. "The aspect of finding out what people need and trying to tailor a particular insurance policy to their needs, that's my favorite thing. Plus, I get to talk to people from all kinds of diverse backgrounds."

Most difficult part of my job: "People think we're salespeople first and a people-type person next," he said. "To me, it's the other way around."

Family: Chaney and Jennifer, his wife of 19 years, have two children: Emily, a sophomore at Kansas University, and Sarah, a senior at Free State High School.

Interests outside of work: "I'm a sports fanatic," said Chaney, who watches, plays and officiates sporting events in the area.

Advice to live by: " 'Don't sweat the small stuff,' and 'Enjoy life to the fullest,' " he said. "I got that from my parents and grandparents. That's part of the reason I am the person I am today."

Something you may be surprised to learn about me: Chaney likes singing Lionel Richie, the Eagles and Frank Sinatra. "I do karaoke and I'm a great shower singer," said Chaney, who attended Kansas University on a vocal music scholarship.
