Missouri to open at NABC

July 24, 2001

— The Missouri men's basketball team will open its regular season by hosting two rounds of the inaugural NABC Guardians Classic.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches' 16-team tournament will open in four cities, including Columbia, where the Tigers start their season Nov. 13 against Tennessee-Martin. If they win that game, they'll play again at the Hearnes Center against either Air Force or Yale.

The third and fourth rounds won't be held too far away, either. The semifinals and championship game will be held at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo. The other teams hosting opening rounds of the tournament are Alabama, Iowa and Memphis.

The non-conference schedule also includes a Feb. 3 matchup with Virginia in Columbia, to be televised on ABC.

The Big 12 Conference schedule has not yet been finalized.

Other highlights of the non-conference schedule:

l Nov. 24 against Xavier at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

l Dec. 3 matchup against Saint Louis at the Savvis Center in St. Louis.

l Iowa visits the Hearnes Center on Dec. 15.

l the annual Braggin' Rights game against Illinois on Dec. 22, also at the Savvis Center.
