Junction City Carl Brooks probably had to ice down his arm Saturday night following a doubleheader against Junction City.
Brooks, head coach and third base coach for the Lawrence Raiders, saw his team score early and often in sweeping the twinbill, 9-1 and 15-1.
"Everybody really did well today," Brooks said. "It was a fun doubleheader to watch, a lot of waving my arms at third base, just keep on keeping on.
"I used my left arm to save my right arm for batting practice," he quipped.
Brooks and the Raiders don't have much time to recover, taking on Manhattan in a home doubleheader today at Free State with the Tri-District Western Division championship on the line. Each team had a 9-1 league record heading into the weekend.
"It's a league thing so obviously we like to do well in our league," Brooks said. "The focus always is the zone tournament and you hope to get to state, but to do well in your league is important. We place more importance on league games.
"It's as big as it gets until you get to zone."
With Friday night's 13-4 victory over Paola, the Raiders have routed their opponents by a combined score of 37-6 in their last three games.
Derek Bailey led the onslaught in the opener, going 2-for-3 with his first career home run and three RBIs. Rob Scott and Blake Dickson who earned the win in the opener both went 2-for-3 with three RBIs apiece in the nightcap.
