l Hit the ball with the trademark straight up or straight down to reduce chance of breakage.

l In a practice cage, protect the barrel with a rubber sleeve or tape to extend the bat's life.

l Store the bat in a stable climate, such as under a bed or sofa. Bats become brittle with lengthy exposure to temperatures below freezing or above 90 degrees.

l Rub the bat with a small amount of linseed oil at season's end.
