— Marty Sallaz of Leawood and Chip Stewart of Dallas will meet for the Trans-Mississippi Championship today at the Kansas City Country Club.

In the semifinals Saturday, Sallaz birdied the 16th and 17th holes, then halved the 18th to gain a 1-up victory over former Kansas University golfer Len Johnsen Jr., also of Leawood.

Stewart, who trailed by three holes after nine, evened his semifinal match with Ryan Hill of Longview, Texas, on the second nine, then sank a 2-foot par putt on the 27th hole after Hill three-putted from 34 feet. On the third nine, both parred the first six, birdied the seventh, then parred the eighth before the finish.

In the quarterfinals, Hill led by one at the turn, then won 10,11 and 15 to gain a 4-3 victory over Eric Joseph, also of Longview, Texas.

Stewart had four birdies on the front side to lead 4-up after nine, then fired one more to eliminate Stan Lee, Conway, Ark., 6 and 5.

Johnsen won the first two holes to lead Clark Rheney of Houston by two at the turn, then won 11, 12 and 13 to gain a 4 and 3 decision.
