Bribery case documents demanded

July 15, 2001

— The Reno County Commission wants a judge to force MgtGp Inc. to turn over documents about its relationship with Sheriff Larry Leslie, who is accused of accepting bribes from the contractor.

Attorneys for the Reno County Commission, which filed a civil suit against Leslie May 30, filed motions Friday seeking information from company documents.

The motions indicate that MgtGp and owner Gerald Hertach invoked their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination to avoid producing a variety of documents about their personal and financial relationships with Leslie.

Leslie is charged with 34 counts of bribery for allegedly receiving $284,000 from Hertach to steer the county's jail contract to MgtGp, also known as MGI. Hertach also faces 34 bribery counts.

Reno County commissioners are suing to recover more than $500,000 in profits from the contract to run a county jail annex.
