Jensen Shines in JC: Brian Jensen of Lawrence set a course record of 31:40 in winning the Freedom 10K on July 4 in Junction City. Lawrence's Steve Riley, Jim Dicker and Dick Wilson were age-group winners as was Baldwin's Bob Woods. Also in age-group competition, Matt Riley and Ross McDaniel earned thirds and Stephen Devillier a fourth.

Boeck Wins Age Group: Lawrence's Dee Boeck won the ages 50-59 women's competition at the Freedom Run 10K on July 4 in Lenexa. She was timed in 48:41.

Spray Bike Champ: Larry Spray of Lawrence won the masters men division of the Midwest Fat Tire bike race series on Sunday at Perry Lake. Lawrence's John Giles was second in sport junior men and Jennifer Tilley third in expert women.

JGC Winners: Jon Kindlesparger and Van Reichert each shot a 77 for low score in last Sunday's Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Chris Ichelson shot a 78 and Roger Gemeinhardt a 79. In the net portion, Glenn Holden was low with a 66. Larry Bennett and Pete Whitenight were runners-up, each with a 71.

Dressage Competitors: Three Baldwin girls and one from Lawrence will compete in the National Dressage championships July 21-28 in Albuquerque, N.M. Tessa Dick, Morgan Grissum and Clare Hove will compete at the U-13 level while Jena Dick will be in the ages 14-17 category. Hove is from Lawrence; the others from Baldwin.

Lahm Honored: Lawrence High product Candice Lahm, a volleyball player at Virginia Tech, has been named to the Big East Academic All-Star Team.

Rebels Second in League: Lawrence Rebels U-11 baseball finished second in the the WyCo League with an 11-3 record. During the regular season, the Rebels were 36-10 and will begin play in the USSSA Tournament this weekend in Olathe.

Burgess Wins Triathlon: Cathy Burgess of Lawrence won the Athena short course portion of last Sunday's Shawnee Mission Triathlon. Lawrence placers in the short course were Amanda Taylor 30th, Lindsey Witthaus 39th, Lindsay Wuttke 90th and Joyce Curry 113th. Kent Dobbins led the Lawrence men by finishing 38th overall in the long course competition. Other Lawrence long-course placings were Gary Calton 59th, Mark Schraad 64th, Alex Weston 86th, Mahlon Strahm 103rd, David Blair 125th, Dennis Anthony 146th, Andrew Bauch 170th and Oather Strawderman 176th.

Belaire Wins Pair: Jeffrey Belaire of Lawrence Boys and Girls Club won both the primary boys 100 and 200 dashes at the Region VIII AAU track and field championships last weekend in Columbia, Mo. Teammate Richard Demby also qualified for the National AAU meet in Norfolk, Va., by finishing fourth in the midget boys hurdles.

KU Track Clinic: Kansas University coaches will conduct a track and field clinic for youths ages 10-18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Anschutz Pavilion. Cost is $50. For information, call Tim Weaver at 864-7971.
