Ottawa -- Ottawa University has named men's basketball coach Andy Carrier athletics director.

Carrier replaces Ted Chapman who has been appointed chair of the newly reorganized OU School of Business.

This is Carrier's third stint as OU's AD. He also held the post from 1993-95 and from 1998-99.

Kansas grad to join

Big 12 media staff

Dallas -- Kansas University graduate Carmen Murry has been named the Will Hancock Memorial Intern on the Big 12 Conference media relations staff.

Murry, a native of Great Bend, spent the last four years working as a student aide in the KU sports information office.

The internship is named in honor of the Oklahoma State sports information staffer and KU graduate who died in a plane crash last winter.

Bandits slam

Manhattan, 11-3

David Allen smacked a grand slam to spark the Lawrence Bandits to a 11-3 romp of Manahttan on Wednesday at an American Legion zone baseball tournament at Free State High.

With the Bandits ahead 7-2, Allen belted his homer in the top of the fifth.

Tyler Blankenship went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Bandits (20-7). David Arndt drove in three runs.

Matt Lane was the winning pitcher for the Bandits, who will play the Blue Valley North-Shawnee Miege winner in the zone semifinals at 8:15 p.m. Friday.

The zone championship of the double-elimination tournament will be played Saturday. See related photo, page 7C.
