Mr. Whitebread died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo., after a short illness.
He was born Aug. 26, 1940, in Topeka, the son of Chester and Frieda Raye Whitebread. He lived in Lecompton for many years, then lived in Tightwad, Mo., and Alamo, Tex., for three years. He was a mechanical maintenance man for KPL at Lawrence Energy Center for 19 years. He retired Aug. 1, 1997. He then worked as a maintenance man and camp host for the Eagles Nest R.V. Resort, Tightwad, Mo. He was also a carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenters Union and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, both of Topeka. He was a member of Good Sam Club of America and Carriage Trouble Club.
He married Carol Lea Rogers May 18, 1983, in Mission. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael, York, Pa., and Mike Barnes, Fordyce, Ark.; three daughters, Jannell Johnston, Baldwin, Alana Cox, Forsythe, Mo., and Heather Whitebread, Hollister, Mo.; three brothers, Milton and Ted, both of Lawrence, and Chet, Overland Park; three sisters, Sue Hodges, Lawrence, Bonita Swatzel, Independence, Mo., and Beverly Kurth, California; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
