Two pedestrians struck by vehicles within minutes of each other Friday night in downtown Lawrence escaped with minor injuries.
Katy Nitcher, 46, of Lawrence was struck by a green Dodge Ram pickup and knocked to the ground about 7:40 p.m. while walking north across Seventh Street at New Hampshire Street with her husband, Sgt. Paul Fellers of the Lawrence Police Department said.
The light was green, and the "walk" light was illuminated when the couple entered the intersection. The truck's driver, Joseph Hickock, 72, Lawrence, turned left when the light turned green and braked when he saw the Nitchers. Police issued Hickock a citation.
Nitcher and Begay both were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
