Shuttle to start between Wichita, KCI

July 7, 2001

— Some travelers could find the solution to Wichita's high airfare dilemma inside a six-passenger van.

That's the hope of Best Cab, which wants to tap the demand among Wichita travelers for better airfares available from Kansas City. Best Cab plans to have its shuttle route between Kansas City International Airport and Wichita up and running within 30 days, said Leroy Roseberry, sales manager for the Wichita company.

Best Cab has submitted an application to the Kansas Corporation Commission, which regulates transportation services. The review process takes between four and five weeks, said Rosemary Foreman, director of public affairs for the agency.

Best Cab will charge $225 for a round-trip ticket, which will include pickup and return to the customer's home. A one-way ticket will cost $125.

Those prices are generally less expensive than flying. Round-trip tickets from Wichita to Kansas City range from $440 to $230 before fees, depending on the amount of notice given. And only one airline, US Airways, flies nonstop from Wichita to KCI.
