Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical responded to the blaze at 10:28 p.m. at 440 Fla., according to a press release prepared by Battalion Chief Bill Stark. Flames were visible on the exterior siding of a three-unit, two-story apartment building, and fire had extended into the attic of one apartment.
Approximately 25 personnel handled the fire, which was brought under control in about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported by firefighters or occupants, though the building was occupied at the time of the alarm.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced occupants of one apartment. All other tenants were allowed to return to their units.
