The suspect initially escaped from officers after driving his car into some posts on East 27th Street, said Lt. Kathy Tate, sheriff's spokeswoman. The chase began in the area of East 800 Road and U.S. Highway 40, continued south on Wakarusa Drive and onto 27th Street.
The 18-year-old suspect later was arrested at his home, %% Tate said, and was taken to the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of speeding, driving under the influence, a minor in possession of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident. A passenger riding with the suspect suffered an injury. Formal charges were pending, and the suspect was released on $3,250 bond, a jail official said.
In another incident, an Ottawa man was arrested by police in that city after a chase early Sunday in southwest Douglas County.
The suspect allegedly fled into the woods after wrecking the car, officers said.
The car allegedly had been speeding shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday on East 650 Road near Franklin County. The car struck an embankment near East 460 Road.
Ottawa Police later found the suspect at his home. Douglas County officers cited Mark Osborne, 21, with speeding, fleeing and eluding.
