"I gave my final commitment to KU this morning," Guzman told online recruiting service Mo-Kan Football on Tuesday. "I talked with my parents and I knew it was the right decision. I went in and talked to (Union) coach (Bill) Blankenship and asked for his blessing. Then we called (KU coach Terry) Allen on his cell phone and told him I wanted to be a Jayhawk."

Guzman took his official visit to Kansas last weekend and had in-home visits with coaches from Arizona State and Missouri on Sunday night.

"I wanted to give the other coaches a chance," Guzman said. "I was impressed with the new coach at Arizona State. It was a tough decision. But when I told the other schools I was going to Kansas they were all real classy."

Mo-Kan Football rates Guzman, a member of the Tulsa World's Blue-Chip list, as one the top defensive tackles in the Big 12 region, but he likely will move to the offensive line.

"All of the colleges that recruited me told me I would be better on the offensive line," he said. "That's my best chance to play at the next level. It will be a smooth transition for me."

Guzman was also recruited by Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

"Me and my family fell in love with Lawrence," he said. "I liked the whole coaching staff. They didn't blow smoke and they continued to recruit me. Coach (Jay) Johnson did a great job recruiting me."
