Lawrence High’s Patton improves to 18-0 at SMS

January 7, 2001

— Lawrence High senior Sean Patton is still perfect.

The LHS wrestler captured the 135-pound weight class at the Shawnee Mission South Invitational to improve his record to 18-0.

"He is doing a super job," LHS coach Jeff Tummons said.

Patton was one of six placers for the Lions. Michael Wedman (140), Aaron Madill (152) and Jeff Hauber (160) finished second in their respective classes. Kenny Poeverlein (275) placed third and Shane Bartlett (103) took fourth for the Lions.

"I was really proud at the way the team performed," Tummons said. "We have not had a competition since Dec. 16 and the guys were getting tired of beating on each other. We had some pretty intense practices over winter break.

"We lost some wrestlers this past week because of the intensity of the sport. The wrestlers still out have responded well and are feeling good about themselves and their commitment to LHS wrestling."
