Girls

Free State (13-5, 5-3) at Olathe North (11-7, 5-4)

Tipoff: 5:30 p.m.

Notes: Tonight's Sunflower League game also could have implications on Class 6A sub-state seedings. With a win tonight, the Firebirds would clinch the No. 2 seed. Free State currently is the second seed, a game ahead of Olathe East (12-6) and two games ahead of the Eagles. There's also a possibility of Free State hosting a sub-state, depending on the outcome of some of this week's boys games, FSHS-Olathe North. The Firebirds are coming off a thrilling 44-43 victory over Shawnee Mission South on Friday night. FSHS senior guard/forward Katie Rhodes hit the game-winning three-pointer with eight seconds to play. Rhodes leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game, followed by senior center Joyia Chadwick (11.0), senior forward Christina Neighbors (8.3) and senior point guard Jackie Dubois (5.4). Tonight marks the fourth and final girls-boys doubleheader.

Next for the Firebirds: Shawnee Mission East, 7:15 p.m. Thursday at SME.

Boys

Free State (9-9, 5-3) at Olathe North (7-11, 3-6)

Tipoff: 7:15 p.m.

Notes: The Firebirds, who have won three straight and four of five, are coming off a 66-51 Sunflower League victory at Shawnee Mission South on Friday night. The Eagles have lost back-to-back games at Leavenworth (56-53) and against SM East (51-44). Free State currently is seeded seventh in its Class 6A sub-state and would be assured of finishing no worse than that with a win tonight. The Firebirds hold a two-game lead over the Eagles, trail Olathe South (which they defeated) by a game and trail Topeka High by 1 1/2 games. There's also a possibility that Free State could host a sub-state if Olathe East and Overland Park Aquinas win out, and the Firebird girls and boys win at least one of their final two games. Free State has two players averaging in double figures for scoring in sophomore center Keith Wooden (12.9) and senior forward Pat Krivoshia (12.4). Other top scorers are junior swingman Andron Cruse (6.6) and sophomore Neil Dougherty (4.3). Tonight's game is the nightcap of the Firebirds' final girls-boys doubleheader this season.
