Overnight Tourney: A three-on-three overnight basketball tournament for youths in grades six through nine is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Feb. 23 and end at 9 a.m. on Feb. 24 at East Lawrence Recreation Center. Registration fee is $5. For information, call 832-7950.



Brandt Second: Elizabeth Brandt of the Lawrence Gymnastics Academy placed second in the all-around in Level Five at the Land of Oz Invitational last Saturday in Wichita. LGA's Arden Leland was fourth in all-around while teammates Adrienne Struble and Chelsey Ornburn both earned a sixth place and Darian Gonzalez an eighth. In Level Six, LGA's Meredith West was second in all-around, Aarynne Struble fourth, Aubrey Morris fifth and Alexandra Hyler seventh. In Level Seven, LGA's Kara Kellison was second in all-around, Mallory West ninth, Jillian Hay 11th and Ashley Sakumura 12th.



Indoor Triathlon Winners: Kent McDonald and Barb Pranger Park were the male and female overall winners respectively at last Sunday's Lawrence Athletic Club Indoor Triathlon. Male age-group winners were Matt Geary, Rance McClain, Jeff Randall, Rich Yeakel, Dennis Anthony and Jack Hupe. Female age-group winners were Alysha Valencia, Lori Dobbins, Becky McClure, Carol Dobbins and Jan Butin.



Dobbins All-American: Lawrence's Kent Dobbins has been listed as a 2000 All-American in the men's 55-59 age group by the USA Triathlon Association.



Salvatore Shines: Genny Salvatore of Lawrence's Kansas School of Gymnastics finished third in the Level Nine all-around with a score of 35.10 at a national meet last weekend in Chicago. KSG's Kelsey Richardson won the balance beam at Level Seven with a score of 9.075 and Jennifer Pogge was second on the beam at Level 10 with a 9.025. Other KSG placers were Jeryka Lobner, Lindsey Fisher, Jennifer Hornbaker and Sindra Schueler.



Cook Starting: Kyle Cook, a 1998 Lawrence High graduate who played two seasons at Butler County CC, is the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La. Cook recently went 9-for-9, including hitting for the cycle, in games against Centenary.



LHS Baseball Meeting: Lawrence High baseball coach David Petry will hold a meeting for prospective baseball players at 3:30 p.m. on Monday in Room 118. Ninth-graders are welcome.



Flames Win Tournament: Lawrence Flames sixth grade girls basketball went undefeated to win the MAYB tournament last weekend at Sport 2 Sport. Team members are Ashley Patton, Cally Gray, Alex Harvey, Allie Hock, Kelsey Harrison, Livi Abney, Jenica Wessels, Jessica Baer and Jenna Brantley. Coaches are Wint Winter and Tiffany Patton.



Free State Hockey Wins: Despite being outshot 34-13, Free State High defeated the Wichita Wind, 2-0, in club hockey last weekend at Ice Sports in Shawnee. Free State goaltender Scott Smith earned the shutout, and David Knight scored both goals for Free State (6-5-2).



KSG Results: At the recent KGDC meet in Topeka, Sara Hase won her age group and the Kansas School of Gymnastics Level 5 team placed sixth as a team. Allison Womack was second and Morgan Harris fifth. At the Dragon Classic last weekend in Kansas City, Mo., Womack was fourth, Hase sixth, Harris eighth, Kasey Clements 12th, Brittany Harrell 13th and Alexa Clements 14th. Abby Hanson and Kaitlin Fisher also competed. In Level 6 competition, Amelia Firns-Hubert placed fourth in her age group and Sarah Athey and April Miller were fifth in their age groups.
