Lawrence Police Friday continued to investigate a one-vehicle accident that killed an 18-year-old man Thursday night.
Joshua Shuckahosee, Lawrence, was identified by police as the victim. He was the driver of a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup that struck a utility pole at the intersection of Clinton Parkway and Lawrence Avenue, police Sgt. Mike Pattrick said.
A passenger, Steven Spottedtail, 17, Lawrence, was taken by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Pattrick said. He was treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.
About 10:40 p.m. Shuckahosee was driving east on Clinton Parkway when he lost control of the pickup, Pattrick said. The pickup struck a pole on the south side of the intersection.
Police are investigating the possibility that alcohol was a factor in the wreck, Pattrick said.
Shuckahosee was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by rescue workers. He was then taken to LMH, where he was pronounced dead.
It was the second Lawrence traffic fatality in less than a week. On Sunday, Shyra McGee, 23, Lawrence, was killed in a two-vehicle accident at Sixth and Monterey Way. That accident also is under investigation.
